I'm not a founder or sponsor of Boko Haram sect - Ali Modu Sheriff

Former Borno governor Ali Modu- Sheriff who recently was appointed Chairman of PDP says he's not a sponsor or founder of Boko Haram. His emergence as the new PDP chairman this week was heavily criticized with Femi Fani-Kayode calling him the indisputable founder of Boko Haram.

Exonerating himself, Ali Modu- Sheriff - "Boko Haram wanted to kill me at a time because they believed that I was the one that reported them to President Umaru Yar’Adua to destroy their enclave.

"It was after I left government that they moved to their different camps and bushes. Why should they kill my brother? Why should they kill my family if I am a sponsor of Boko Haram? Is there anywhere in the world that you sponsor people to kill you?”
"Let me give you a typical example. Just a week ago, all the social media planted my picture showing me with the card of APC joining the party. At that time, nobody wrote that I was Boko Haram. They said Sheriff was going back to APC; they were showing a card when we registered with APC before I left the party. We went to our villages to do it; that village they are showing on the social media was a village that was taken over by Boko Haram for the past three years. So, how could I have gone there to register?
"Few days after I became the Chairman of the PDP, Ali Sheriff is now Boko Haram; so if you are in APC you are not a Boko Haram. Throughout my period in APC, nobody said I was Boko Haram. Immediately I left the APC, I was termed Boko Haram," he said.
"Nobody in my family or relation is Boko Haram or close to any Boko Haram member. These people that wanted to kill me, up till today, if they have the chance, they will kill me because they think I reported them to Yar’Adua who leveled their places of worship and along the line, their leader was killed.
"And that was my crime and why they wanted to kill me. But people that are afraid of me changed the story and they keep on doing it. Every day, they write different things but you and I know that nobody is above the laws of Nigeria. I believe that President Buhari, even if it is his son or blood brother that is a Boko Haram, he will arrest and prosecute him. So the allegation is the figment of the imagination of the writers," he said.

'Wearable chair' exoskeleton allows you to sit while standing

If you work a job where you’re standing all day, you’ll know how much strain you can put on your feet, hips, and joints. Depending on the line of work, you may have the opportunity to sit down and give your legs a break throughout the day, but if you’re, say, a medical surgeon, you don’t always get that option.

But what if you had a chair with you at all times? What if you could sit without actually sitting? It sounds absurd, but the archelis “wearable chair” allows for just that.

Planned and produced by Japanese company Nitto under the supervision of Chiba University’s Frontier Medical Engineering Center, archelis simply straps onto your legs, allowing the “chair” to move along with you. By bending your knees and putting your weight on the upper sections of the unit, archelis supports your body in the same way as if you were sitting, taking the strain off your tired legs and feet.

The device is ergonomically designed using a combination of tough metal and carbon to be both durable yet is light enough to allow for comfort and ease of movement. For surgeons who need to stay standing and focused for hours on end, this could be the welcomed relief they need.

Archelis is still in development and does not yet have a set price or release date, but any updates on production will be announced on the website. While the unit was designed with medical staff in mind, we can definitely see this being used in a number of different applications, such as allowing people who have difficulty walking or standing for long periods of time a little respite. Personally, I’d love to have one of these for my long morning commute on crowded trains.

Elton John has ended his bitter feud with his mother after 8 years

Singer Elton John has ended his bitter eight-year feud with his mother Sheila.
Confirming the pair have put their row behind them, he said yesterday: “We are now back in touch.”
Elton John hadn’t spoken to Sheila since an explosive fall-out in 2008.
And there seemed to be little chance of a thaw recently when she booked an Elton tribute act to perform at her 90th birthday party.

But Sir Elton , 68, says the pair have been back in touch for weeks.
He said:
“Out of respect for my mother’s privacy, I have always shied away from speaking publicly about our relationship.
“However, I can say that we are now back in touch and have been so since my mother’s 90th birthday.”
The star added:
“I won’t be commenting further on this.”
Their bust-up was sparked by Sheila’s refusal to cut off contact with two of her son’s oldest friends, Bob Halley and John Reid, after he fell out with them. Bob had worked for Elton for three decades, first as a driver then later as a personal assistant, before he was fired as part of a series of changes the singer was making to his team.

John, who had been Elton’s manager and briefly his lover, helped guide the early stages of the star’s £235million career. Sheila explained last year: “I’ve got used to it. And it was all so stupid – so petty.”

She also explained how she blamed Elton’s husband David Furnish for turning her son against her.
But it’s now understood the filmmaker, who has been with Sir Elton since 1993, has been actively encouraging his husband to make amends. And on Friday Elton told an amusing anecdote about his mum on Graham Norton’s BBC1 chat show – a hint that the relationship might be improving.

Last month it emerged Elton had paid £30,000 for a double hip replacement operation for Sheila, who lives in a seaside house in West Sussex, after she began struggling on her feet.

And new pictures of the 90-year-old doing her shopping in a wheelchair last week show she’s quickly got back on the mend after the week-long stay at a private London hospital, to the relief of her family and close friends.
A source said Sheila turning 90 was also a turning point in the feud.

Pakistan police arrest six for arranging wedding between 6 & 7year old boy & girl

Police have arrested six people accused of arranging the marriage of a seven-year-old boy and six-year-old girl in eastern Pakistan, officials said Saturday. The fathers of both children, the cleric performing the ceremony, and three witnesses were charged under the Child Marriage Restraint Act on Saturday after being arrested in Punjab province on Friday, senior police official Saifullah Khan told AFP.

They face six months imprisonment and/or a fine of 50,000 rupees ($500).
Local police chief Mehr Riaz Hussain said the accused have denied that the wedding took place, but police have it on video.
Pakistani lawmakers last month withdrew a proposal to impose harsher penalties on those who arrange child marriages after it was scuttled by a religious body which branded it "blasphemous" and against Islam.
The proposal, which would also have raised the legal age of marriages for females from 16 to 18, called for "rigorous" punishment of up to two years in prison for those who organise child marriages, still common in some parts of Pakistan.
The original law stipulates the age of marriage to be 16 for women and 18 for men but Pakistani religious scholars at the Council of Islamic Ideology, believe it is not in accordance with Islamic teachings.

They say there is no specific age limit for marriage in Sharia as an individual can marry when he or she reaches puberty and puberty cannot be defined by age. Rights activists strongly criticised the rejection of bill.
